Brahmavihara Arama, Singaraja

Brahamavihara Arama, is Bali's largest and well known Buddhist monastery and meditation center. Located aroung 1.5 KM west of Banjar Hot Spring, at north Bali, Singaraja. Brahamaviahara Arama start builded at 1969 and finish 1970, then at 1973 then it formally opened as Buddhist monastery.


When we visit Brahamavihara Arama, the same Hindu's temple enterance regulation applies, sarong and sash is a must. The monastery comprises a hectare of hillside, with numerous meditation rooms, libraries, gardens and an impressive mini replica of the world's largest Buddhist archeological site, The Borobudur.

The place is devide into several area, starting from the enterance we will found steps to Dharmasala for daily praying and ceremony, and also Kuti place where the monk live and practice. In the middle level we will found a big garden with higher steps in the center to Uposatha Graha, which is place for bigger praying and ceremony area, for special occasion. On the last level, we will found the replica of Borobudur, with huge and beautiful scenery around it.

Its name, given by the founding father, Bhante Girirakkhito Mahathera, consist of 3 words; Brahma, Vihara and Arama; when combined mean "a place for self cultivation". Every years many meditation retreat / courses is held here, and many people visits to pray, meditate alone. The beautiful scene, fresh air, good people, good deeds; all of those gives calming feeling and good vibration to every visitor. A must visit place in Bali.
